I've been painting away, just not getting them posted; so I will try to catch up this week! This is the first self portrait I've done in several years. It's watercolor, watercolor pencil and sumi on polypropylene.

hairysniffer painting

This is the first in a series of paintings inspired by photos posted by xtube members (hairysniffer in this case). I started with sumi ink on heavy watercolor paper then added watercolor pencils and painted them out in several layers. Next came a little white acrylic for highlights followed by more watercolor until it was balanced to my eye. Lastly I added the background and a touch more black sumi ink to correct discrepancies that weren't apparent in the initial stages. I photographed each step to preserve it before proceeding to the next.
